n a shocking story, a Nigerian university student passed away last week during a play rehearsal for The Passion of the Christ.  The young man was identified as 25-year-old Suel Ambrose, who was studying to be a priest at the Clariantian University seminary in Nekede, southeastern Nigeria.

Reports say Ambrose accepted the role of Jesus’ disciple Simon Peter.  As part of the act, Ambrose fell to the ground, mimicking the scene where a Roman soldier’s ear was cut off to protect Jesus.

“Initially when it happened, we thought it was a joke, and that it was part of the drama,” Micheal Eluwa told the news site Vanguard. “It was when he could not get up that was when we knew it was a serious matter, and he was rushed to a school hospital.”

As of this writing, it is unclear what prompted Ambrose’s death.  Ambrose was transported to a local hospital, the Federal Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
