There’s this long-held belief that says Africa is the motherland; well, according to BCC news, Gosiame Thamara Sithole might prove this to be the case. Reports are that Sithole gave birth to 10 children this week in what is considered to be the Guinness World Record if true.
As of right now, a woman in the USA holds that title after giving birth to 8 babies in 2009. And it is being claimed that the children all survived. Halima Cissé, 25, from Mali, gave birth to nine babies last month, and reports say the kids are doing well at a local hospital in Morocco.
Record or not, Sithole’s husband, Teboho Tsotetsi, told theBBC that he was beyond joy after hearing the news. “It’s seven boys and three girls. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much,” he said.
The BBC says a family member confirmed that Sithole gave birth to 10 babies – five via natural birth and 5 via cesarean section.
BBC quoted an Africa’s health reporter named Rhoda Odhiambo as saying, “Most pregnancies involving large numbers of babies end prematurely. Multiple births involving more than three babies are rare and often the result of fertility treatments – but in this case, the couple says they conceived naturally.”
The 37-year-old Sithole has twins who are six years old, and reports say after the delivery of the ten kids, she is doing well and her husband said this was close to being “One of God’s chosen children. It’s a miracle which I appreciate.”
One South African official told the BBC that Sithole gave birth to the kids, while another authority has yet to confirm. Guinness World Records is looking into Sithole’s situation.
