D r. Patricia Kingori has proven that women, especially of color, can break barriers in today’s society. According to several reports, Oxford University, based in the UK, has around 23,000 professors, and only 155 are estimated to be black.
Not only did the Kingori become the 156th black professor, she also became the youngest at age 25, to receive a full professorship to Oxford. Dr. Kingori studied sociology with an emphasis on the issues that frontline health workers face.
“To have my body of work recognized in this way is a great honor, and I am deeply grateful to the many people who have inspired and supported me so far,” she said during an interview.
For five years, Dr. Kingori was a research lecturer before being appointed associate professor. Kingori, a mother of two, was born in Kenya’s St Kitts area with a population of 52,000.
According to reports, Dr. Kingori’s family left St. Kitts when she was a teenager and moved to the UK. Her work also included being an adviser to multiple organizations, including the World Health Organization, Save the Children, Medecins San Frontières, the Nuffield Council of Bioethics, and the Obama administration’s White House Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment in Africa Initiative.

Kingori’s sister, Vanessa Kingori, was a source of inspiration. Vanessa became a trendsetter when she became the first female publisher in British Vogue’s 102-year history. Vanessa was the first black woman to occupy the role of Publishing Director. In March 2015, she accepted the position of Publisher of British GQ across all platforms.
A major goal for Vanessa at GQ was to give voice to a particular focus on digital fortunes, while simultaneously growing and maintaining the print elements of the GQ portfolio.”
In 2016, in her first full year as a Publisher, her talents brought in top revenue of the last decade. GQ won several digital commercial awards because of her efforts.
