Mahant Narendra Giri, Akhada Parishad head, found dead under

In a shocking development on Monday, some of Mahant Narendra Giri’s pupils discovered his body hanging inside a room at a tempo.   Apparently, Giri’s, who was president of the Akhara Parishad, left a suicide note in which he accused several disciples of mental torture.

In the seven-to-eight-page note, Mahant Narendra named several alleged disciples as the culprits, one of them being forty-year-old Anand Giri, also known as Swami. The other two disciples mentioned in the letter were Adya Tiwari, the priest of Hanuman temple, and his son Sandeep Tiwari.

Mahant Narendra’s followers grew concerned after they could not reach him, which prompted them to go to Mahant Narendra’s last known location. His followers kicked in the door and discovered Mahant Narendra’s body.  According to sources, police showed up shortly after that.

Anand, Adya, and Tiwari were taken into custody, and an FIR was written and filed against them at Prayagraj’s George Town police station.  According to the FIR, the men have been booked under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (Abetment of suicide).

Anand Giri reportedly said Mahant Narendra’s death was the result of greed.

“It is a big conspiracy by people who used to extort money from Guruji [Mahant Narendra] and wrote my name in the letter. It needs to be investigated, as Guruji has not written a letter in his life and could not do suicide.”

Anand further said, “His [Mahant Narendra’s] handwriting needs to be probed. Police officials, the land mafia is involved in the conspiracy. I will cooperate with the police in the investigation. Guruji was provoked against me. If I am guilty, then I am ready to face punishment. I spoke to Guruji 15 days ago.”

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called Giri’s death “an irreparable loss for everyone…almighty give strength to his disciples to bear the loss.”

Mahant Narendra’s position granted him authority over the body of the 13 recognized Hindu monastic orders in the country.

At the time of his death, Mahant Narendra was 72 years old. He caught Covid-19 in April and isolated himself inside his Ashram.
